I have experienced episodes of rapid heart beatings as well as a sensation of "skipped beats", chest pains and muscular pain. I have also developed an occasional problem with my speech--stuttering. In the last year, I have developed a sexual dysfunction and have extreme difficulty achieving orgasm. I have difficulty sleeping and when I do, I have severe "night sweats". I also perspire profusely and after a short period of strenuous activity, look as if I have just stepped out of the shower. My vision is blurred and I get shooting pains in my head. I also feel "foggy" and have difficulty concentrating on normal tasks.
I have been scared to death to go to the doctor's for a checkup because I was sure the symptoms were related to heart problems. What a relief to think they may be "chemically" produced."
"I'm in the withdrawal process right now. I'm holding myself together, but I am frightened. I have lost everything in the last 3 years while on Zoloft. I used to be a medical equipment sales rep, and now am unemployed and live "I took Zoloft for a little over a year for anxiety/panic attacks. At first the side effects seemed too much to take: twitching, ringing in the ears, dizzy, nervous all the time, but the doctor assured me this is normal and to just stick with it and the side effects would wear off. After about 8 weeks the nervousness went away and so did my panic attacks. I stayed on the medication for a year because I feared going off of it and the return of panic. My doctor told me to take my dosage every other day for two weeks then quit all together. Well, it has taken me 6 weeks to wean off the medication. I've felt depressed, angry, dizzy, sick to my stomach. The twitching has stopped for the first time in 1 year, but I have gained 30 pounds in this past year and now my doctor tells me that I have hyperthyroidism. And I have to wonder if it is a result of the Zoloft or if that was what I had all along and was mistreated with the antidepressant."
